Community Alliance Announces Recipient of Mike Whitmore Award
The Lorain County Community Alliance (LCCA) announced Wellington Township Trustee and Alliance Administrative Coordinator Virginia Haynes as the 2009 recipient of the Mike Whitmore Award for Vision in Government at their10th Annual Summit on Friday, October 2nd, 2009 at the Lorain County Administration Building in Elyria.
Trustee Virginia Haynes was deeply grateful to be honored by the Alliance, and said that all of her accomplishments, especially the Southern Satellite Office on Aging, were never completed alone, but were due to the collaborative efforts of others in the Wellington community and Lorain County. Haynes also pointed out her love for her position with the Alliance and the Lorain County Economic Development Department because of their positive attitude and forward thinking towards collaborative networking for the betterment of the Lorain County residents and the entire region.
Past recipients of the Mike Whitmore Award include State Representative Matt Lundy, Assistant County Prosecutor Jerry Innes, Lorain County Commissioner and Alliance Chair Betty Blair, and Ron Twining, Assistant County Administrator who has 28 years of public service.
Over 75 people were in attendance with the focus of the Summit being “Regional Revitalization 2010”. Guest speakers included Michael Cochran, Executive Director of the Ohio Township Association, Ohio Senator Capri Cafaro, and Attorney General Richard Cordray.
The Meeting concluded with lunch sponsored by Lorain County Engineer Ken Carney.
The Lorain County Community Alliance is a council of Governments, formed under the Ohio Revised Code and made up of political jurisdictions and organizations working together for the benefit of the citizens of Lorain County and the entire region. The Alliance seeks to explore more effective levels of public service, develop mechanisms to save money for the communities involved and benefit the member communities and the region in ways that could not be achieved separately.
The next Alliance meeting is Friday, December 4th, 2009.
